About The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer specializing in Video to join our team at Whatnot. This role is pivotal in shaping our video and live streaming capabilities, which form the core of our platform. As part of our expansion, you will be responsible for defining and executing our video strategy, enhancing video quality, and developing innovative tools to maximize engagement and sales for our sellers. Your work will involve building robust video recording pipelines, implementing advanced seller tools such as interactive overlays, and improving the overall streaming experience for users. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our video infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and aligned with our long-term vision. This position offers the opportunity to lead innovation in live streaming technology, evaluate new video providers, and contribute to the future of online commerce through cutting-edge video solutions.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent work experience
• Proven experience with scaled WebRTC systems
• Strong ability to translate product requirements into scalable, user-centric systems
• Track record of designing high-quality, reliable engineering solutions
• Excellent problem-solving skills with minimal supervision
• AWS and DevOps experience

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the company's video and live streaming strategy
• Develop and maintain scalable video recording pipelines for both testing and user experience
• Create and enhance seller tools to improve livestream interaction and engagement
• Implement robust measurement and observability systems to monitor video quality and performance
• Lead efforts to advance video features to deliver seamless user experiences
• Evaluate and onboard new video technology providers and solutions
• Collaborate with product teams to align technical solutions with business goals
• Innovate in live streaming performance optimization and reliability
